Fertilizer strategies for aerial sown rice (1984)

Bacon, PE Heenan, DP.

This IREC Farmers Newsletter article presents information and strategies on what occurs to nitrogen following different application techniques and timing. The article presents information on plant nitrogen requirements, ideal situations, rain after fertiliser applications, applying nitrogen to wet soils, drilling fertiliser into moist soils, applying nitrogen after permanent flood. The article concludes that numerous experiments have demonstrated the value of applying nitrogen immediately before permanent flood. These studies have indicated that such strategies will reduce nitrogen losses and these losses are result of volatilization and sequences of nitrification then de nitrification.
