Floret sterility in rice as a result of temperature extremes (1985)
Heenan, D, Lewin, L
1985
This IREC Farmers Newsletter article presents results from trials undertaken at Yanco Agricultural Institute. Floret sterility was seen as one of the most serious problems in rice in southern NSW. The article concludes that the result confirm the importance of pre flowering period (pollen microspore) in determining the rice response to cold temperatures. It was also found that either extreme high or low temperature accompanied by hot dry winds during this time can also produce flateheads.
