This IREC Farmer Newsletter presents a brief on the 3 year RIRDC project USC2A that was commenced to develop molecular markers for the Australian rice breeding. The project aim was to develop molecular markers that identify plant processing the semi dwarfing gene(s) and the fragrant producing genes. This article states that to date useful molecular markers for fragrant genes have been identified and work is continuing with promise on the identification of useful markers for dwarfism.
