Murray Valley Rice variety trials (1982)

This IREC Farmers Newsletter presents a summary of results form the trials undertaken in the Murray Valley this was a response to a request by growers to be kept informed. There were two types of variety trials sown in Murray valley in 1981/82 rice season. These included five small plot replicated trials compared Calrose 76, M& and Pelde at three nitrogen rates. There were also five large block trials sown to simulate commercial production. Each of these blocks approximately 1 ha each were split with three nitrogen rates. The report concludes that Pelde performed very well in the favourable 1981/82 season, although it has not been tested in a cold season therefore will not be recommended until proven it can handle cold temperature during reproduction.
