This IREC Farmers Newsletter presents a progress report on rice breeding in 1979. The articles key focus are on Long and medium grains and advances made, the progress on the short statured varieties and pure seed. The varieties in focus at the time were Inga and Kulu with YR303D-1 and YR303D-5 which are sister selections to Inga. The medium grains research focus was on Californian varieties and smooth medium grains. The previous season also saw advances in short statured varieties.
