This IREC Farmer newsletter presents a summary on the Research and Extension program and the changes that occurred during 1980 with the involvement of Rice growers and expansion of the program. There was consultations industry stakeholders and this article presents many of their ideas for the program. The program aim for the 80;s was to focus on immediate problems encountered by all sections of the industry. It also aimed to develop new initiatives which required to maintain profitability of the industry. Topics covered were rice breeding and grain quality, breeding program, nutrition, establishment and intensive cropping systems, weed control, crop protection and water management.
