Temperate rice conference: Sustainability (June 1994)

This IREC Farmers Newsletter presents the information presented on Sustainability. The key focus of the conference in this area were Pesticide impacts which investigated, down stream and within rice fields. The second focus was on High water tables. There were many other areas discussed and the conclusion presented in the articles states that although there are real threats to sustainability of irrigated agriculture in New South Wales the industry has enough knowledge to now make considerable progress towards developing sustainable rice farming systems. The article does state however the real issue will be whether there is the sociopolitical will power and economic capability of carrying out the necessary measures.
