This IREC Farmers Newsletter article presents information on a two year investigation undertaken at Yanco Agriculture Institute between 1978-80. The trial investigated low temperature damage to spikelet fertility during low temperatures and whether the water level effected this. Concurrent investigations were undertaken in the laboratory found similar results. The article concluded that if the water levers were kept above 25 cm there was a reduced chance of cold damage and therefore reduced yield.
